5 Benefits Of Using Promotional T-Shirts For Small Business Marketing

Looking to boost brand awareness with a fast, simple, and surefire way to generate sales and revenue?

Promotional t-shirts are a great tool to attract interest and build a customer base. And it doesn’t take much on your part.

The rules are simple: set-up some giveaway that will draw attention, and include one of your promotional t-shirts in every prize. People like free stuff, so that alone will attract contenders. But you can go bigger with a more valuable prize appropriate to your target audience–just include the shirt as well.

Every shirt won is a shirt worn, and that increases marketing significantly.

The most important piece you have to factor in for this campaign is the design and appeal of the promotional t-shirts. To get the most bang for your buck, you’ll need to have fresh, trendy logo to ensure your shirts get seen by potential customer’s eyes.

Let’s dive-in.

Why Give Out Promotional T-Shirts?

Holding a promotional contest can generate new customers.
Promotional t-shirts take that a step further by increasing the marketing awareness of your brand. Let’s take a look at the top five benefits of giving away custom t-shirts with your company’s brand on them.

Return Customers

The first people you’re going to really impress with this promotional campaign are the winners of the shirts!
The harder the contest, the more feeling of success and achievement you’ll bring to these loyal customers. They’ll remember the satisfaction they felt and associate that memory and feeling with your brand.

Now you have an ally on your side. Every time they wear their t-shirt with your logo on it, they become a spokesperson for your brand.

Impress your contest winners with a well-designed shirt and an engaging contest. They’ll then become lifelong brand ambassadors for your company.

For free!

Free Advertising

That’s the beauty of promotional t-shirts.
Every time a person adorns one of your custom shirts, they’re representing your label to the world. Whoever they come across in the streets, or on their day-to-day activities.

That would include…strolling through Central Park, watching the game at Dodger’s Stadium, hitting up the casino strips of Las Vegas, dancing the night away in Miami. See how easy that is to draw attention?

And that’s not even talking about social media! There are currently 800 million active users on Instagram alone, and that’s just one of many social media platforms.

That’s free advertising every time one of your brand ambassadors posts a selfie or shares a video wearing one of your promotional t-shirts. That then gets seen by all of their followers and fans, as well as everyone else browsing online.

And all you did was give them a t-shirt.

Conversation Starter

Let’s take a closer look at those brand ambassadors of yours.
You’ve just given them one of your promotional t-shirts in some sort of contest or giveaway. Now, in part, they represent your company. To anyone who asks, they’ll share what they have to say about your brand.

You’ll want to make sure that they do this in a positive way, right?

There are two, simple ways to do this:

Make the t-shirt appealing and stand out
Have the contest be rewarding and memorable
And both methods will continue to reward you and your business every time someone wears your free promotional shirt.

A cool light-up shirt is going to get recognized and pique curiosity by itself. That will engage passersby to become inquisitive about the shirt and question the wearer about the logo on it. Your logo.

You’ll want to craft a challenging contest appropriate to your audience base. Your shirt-wearing ambassador will then have more to share with the inquisitive passerby. A memorable story that they can impart with a positive influence on your brand.

Now you’ve got the loyalty of your t-shirt wearer spreading to others.

Brand Association

Let’s take a look at your audience base.
These are the core group of people you’ll have on your side, wearing one of your branded t-shirts. The first people they’re likely to wear their t-shirts around is their friends and family.

These also happen to the people most likely to also be interested in your brand, either for your business services or products.

You’ll want to really focus in on your target demographics when creating this promotion. Do some research on how to most engage your audience, while giving them some sense of accomplishment. For example:

If you’re a game development company, host an in-game event with a challenge for the best players to compete in
For the mom-and-pop businesses out there, everyone love’s an old-fashioned game of “how many jelly beans are in this jar?”
For the sporting crowd or concert goers, a t-shirt blaster is always a crowd-pleaser
And that’s only on the competitive side of the spectrum. Custom t-shirts are great for large events, as well. Like marathons or trade-shows.

Focus in on your audience and you’ll find the best brand ambassadors for your business.

Round-the-Clock Promotion

Let’s not forget you!
The great thing about having a t-shirt with your business’ logo on it as that you get to wear it proudly.

Everywhere you go, you’ll get the benefit and satisfaction of representing your company. Wear it on the airplane, out to your workout sessions, off to your child’s school events. Anywhere, anytime.

You get to partake in being an ambassador for your business, promoting everytime you wear your shirt.

No one can market your business better than you.

I think you make a good point how t-shirt marketing can be both effective and cost-efficient. I particularly liked how you pointed out that promotional t-shirts have a good return on them since you get free advertising in the future. This is definitely something I wouldn’t mind looking into if I were a small business owner.

You make a good point that the main people someone will be wearing your shirt around are their families, and they’ll be the most likely to be interested in your brand. I’d think that you could also take the image or logo from your T-shirt and easily put it onto a sweatshirt so that they could continue to wear your brand during the colder months. You’d just need to find someone who’d be able to make the merchandise for you.

Using promotional t-shirts will never get old. People will wear them if they are stylish and constantly remind you of the brand. Win win.

My sister wants to start her own business, and I suggested she design some t shirts with her logo on them that people can wear for free marketing. Your article had some great points about the benefits of a t shirt like this, and I liked how you said that this can help build your brand association, and to consider giving the t shirts away as contest prizes to make getting the shirt even more fun. Thanks for the post; I’ll share this with my sister so she can start to promote her future business with t shirts.

I agree that promotional t shirts can give you some free advertising. Every time someone wears one of your shirts or takes a picture in it, it is free advertising and a lot of people will see it, like you said. Overall, it’s probably a good investment to create shirts for anything you’re trying to promote.

I liked what you said about finding who is the best target to be your “brand ambassadors”. My friend was wearing a shirt that she got from her job the other day. It actually did start a conversation between us about where she worked and what she did. I think that it’s a really effective way to get your brand recognized and noticed.

I liked what you said about how the beauty of promotional T-shirts is that they are advertising your business. My cousin is looking to make some shirts for his company and wants to give them out to his employees to get a uniformed look and also to let them be a voice for the company outside of the workplace. Thank you for the information about how every time a person wears one of your shirts, they are representing your label to the world.

I like your idea of having the custom t-shirts be a reward for an interesting contest because it will give your brand ambassadors a more interesting story to share with those who inquire. At my work, we’ve been brainstorming ways to increase our brand awareness and draw in more clients. I’ll definitely suggest we think up a fun contest and have some custom t-shirts made!

It’s cool that promotional products help advertise your company. One of my friends is getting a degree in business, so he may want to learn more about this. Thanks for the great information on promotional products.

Since you said that promotional t-shirts serve as free advertising, I might enlist the services of an apparel screen printing service for my marathon freebies. I like that they can be conversation starters which means the people in the marathon will appreciate it. If it helps with round-the-clock promotion, I think free shirts will help bring in new customers to my shop.
